HISTORY
First show held on December 10th 1885 on the new showgrounds in Steere Street Bridgetown under the name of Central Southern Districts Agricultural Society.
- In 1895 the name changed to Nelson District Agricultural Society.
- Then in 1905 moved to the current showgrounds in Peninsula Road.
- The last Nelson Show was held in 1916. The show then changing to Bridgetown Agricultural Society.
- The Annual Show is held on the fourth Saturday in November.
- A volunteer community group who are legally responsible for the care of the showgrounds.
- All monies raised are used to further improve the grounds and run the Annual Show.
- The Committee meet monthly from February to December.
- The Committee relies on the support of sub committees, stewards, members, volunteers and sponsors to bring the show together.
- The Show contains traditional and modern aspects and supports the Family values, bringing people together to enjoy and share each others knowledge.
- The buildings and grounds are available for hire through the friendly staff at Bridgetown Newsagency.
- The Committee work in with other Community groups to meet the needs for many local events in the town during the year.
- The main objective of the Society is to promote and showcase the grounds for cultural, community, tourism, sporting, recreational, rural and industrial events.
HONORARY LIFE MEMBERS
- Throughout the Societies History there have been many Life Members.
- These people have committed over and above to the progress of the Society and therefore recognised with the honour of Life Membership.
